A rare thing happened this week where I actually have days off on the weekend… It’s like a Christmas miracle, except it’s August, and um it’s actually more of a scheduling miracle but whatevs. You get it. I slept in until 7/8 (kinda woke up around 7 but cuddle dozed with Lou for another hour), and then we internetted in bed for a bit. I saw a tweet from Bif Naked reminding me that the Farmers Market is a thing that exists, so, of course we had to go. I bribed Maine with the promise of coffee and woke the dog up to adventure over.
I brought my camera but it was busy and I had anxiety so I only have photos of our bounty and even those are awful. Something is up either with my camera or my eyes because they are all super blurry but what can you do? (Probably you can clean the lens and try harder…)
We got some huge carrots and gigantic beets. I see borscht in our future. The guy asked if we wanted him to remove the carrot tops and I was like “Are you kidding? The bunny is going to be in heaven!” and it’s true. We already gave him one of the tops and he scarfed it down.
Seriously check out how gigantor they are! We also got treats from Edible Flours (hello vegan donut). I know the Farmers Market is a trendy thing to do but the reason people do it is because IT IS AWESOME. (Yesterday I read an article about the top 20 worst hipster bands and it just made me sad at how angry people get when things are successful. Chill out, yo. But perhaps I am sensitive because I like probably half of those bands.)
I’m going on vacation in a week and it is super exciting, but it also means I need to clean my house like woah. So I should probably do that. But first I will tell you about some other things I did recently.
So the company I work for is a corporate jazz hands sponsor of the Vancouver Canadians, and my team is really awesome so we got to go watch a baseball game for free the other night. I was disappointed by the lack of intermissions in baseball. Three hours is an awfully long time to sit around. Val pointed out that baseball is like not really that strenuous a sport so they don’t need breaks but I NEED BREAKS.
I brought knitting and kinda felt bad for busting it out, but then I also thought that knitting and baseball must be a tradition somewhere… You know. Like the dudes put it on the tv and then you are like omg this is boring and knit through it? Whatever, I was multi-tasking. I know some of the people we went with probably thought I was having the worst time except I wasn’t really. Mostly I am just awkward and an introvert, and I don’t like having to explain to people that small talk is not really my thing. It’s cool if we just sit here quietly. I do not need to make a lot of mouth noises to have a good time. Like as far as social interactions go, I am a cactus, and that’s cool. (Wait, did I just say I’m prickly? I guess that is also kinda true.)
The stadium is just off Main and 30th, and it made me kinda super jealous to walk through the neighbourhood. I forgot that this whole city isn’t just one gigantic free for all dumpster/bathroom/neighbourhood drug trade center. That’s just my neighbourhood (and the DTES I guess). Anyway I wish I had a sweet shark painted on the side of my house, too.
Oh guess what? Fall is warming up it’s dance beats, and I couldn’t be happier. I’m gonna veganify myself some pumpkin spice syrup for coffee times and finish this sweater and it is going to be awesome.

i only recognized about half those bands, and i could probably only hum a song from like two of them. I’M NOT WITH-IT ANYMORE. sad times.

i have an rdio.com subscription so i end up listening to a lot of random crap, but to be fair i usually go back to the same stuff.

totally reasonable! it’s how i felt every time the internet bragged to me about vegan donuts until i found some here. for being a fairly vegan-friendly city, it still feels like it took forever to be able to find vegan donuts in vancouver.

i miss you…that is all.

I know you don’t really like the same music that I do, but that list was mean. I like a lot of those bands and I don’t really trust people who say Arcade Fire have no redeeming qualities, mostly because I think Arcade Fire are wonderful.
Also, I will see you just past tomorrow!
