Yesterday Steph and I had the great idea to go pillage the city of it’s Dyer’s Broom (otherwise known as Scotch Broom). It’s an invasive plant that can be used to dye and also to make fibres you can spin.
This is more dedication than I have.
We ended up going to the overpass near 1st and Clark, and it was super dodgy. A homeless man gave me tips on how to make a strap for my bag so the weight would be carried on my back rather than my shoulder.
We ended up in an area near the train tracks that we probably should not have been in, and then discovered this area had inferior broom anyway, so we went back to the overpass to pick a bit more before heading home. We filled one big Ikea bag and two smaller Ikea bags in total.
Went back to Steph’s to start processing… We decided to remove the flowers from the stems, and later on we’ll see how different the colours are if you use just flowers, just stems, or both.
This majestic beast got to play in the garden all day. When we got home she made a nest on the couch and passed out. It took a lot of coaxing to get her into her crate.
Oscar is handsome.
We had some hard earned gin, and later on Steph made a curry that was super spicy and delicious.
Next step is to mordant the world, and then we shall commence dyeing the universe!

I’m really interested to see how the your natural dyeing goes. I think its cute that a homeless guy offered advice to you. Totally looks like sketch town though
