Sometimes I think about canceling my Netflix account because it doesn’t really seem to have a whole lot on there, but then I go through and find a bunch of things that sound interesting and give it a go (ooh look how British I am speaking already from watching this film).
Basically this is a movie about a girl named Mia, who I guess is 15, and her crappy life with her crappy family. Her mom is about 5 seconds older than she is, and is super rude and just wants to drink and do it all the time.
Mia is kind of what happens when those girls on Maury Povich who are all “I wanna have a baby” actually have a baby and then treat their baby like crap forever and realize that having children can really get in the way of partying your life away.
She wants to be a dancer, but not a sexy dancer. More like a hip hop dancer. When she is not getting into trouble she is watching youtube videos of dancing and then sneaking off to an abandoned flat to practice her sweet moves until she can get the heck out of this depressing life.
Meanwhile her mother, who is so determined to party all the time that she is going to send this kid away to school, well she picks up some dude I guess and bonerizes him. And at first he seems like a swell guy; he’s nice to the kids, does “family” kinds of things with them and if you guessed that’s going to be a hint about who he really is, ding ding ding. You have won a toaster! Only slightly used!
So Mia kinda starts to have a thing for this guy, and the movie is pretty good at drawing it out and making you guess omg will they or won’t they, and you sort of do want them to until you remember that this guy is old and is hello, dating her mother.
So when they do finally do it on the couch you have this moment of DO NOT WANT and it all starts to unravel from there but maybe not how you expected it to. I am trying to not spoil this too much for you because I think it is worthwhile to watch.
Oh also there is a side plot about a horse and some dudes who live in an abandoned lot and one of them ends up being not so terrible.
In conclusion, I would probably recommend this movie if you were interested in watching a slightly depressing movie about wanting to be a dancer and having a crappy family and how to avoid being a stripper.
Hello friends! What’s new? I just had a three day weekend. Today is the last day and it is kinda sad, but I know another weekend will happen, and life will go on until one day it just doesn’t.
Yesterday I met up with Val. We were going to have breakfast at Cafe Deux Soleils but when we looked at the menu I discovered the only thing that was for me was tofu scramble and I can make delicious tofu scramble at home, and when I do that I don’t have to sit with strangers.
So instead we walked down Commercial Drive and ended up getting on the 22 to go to the Naam where I had… um… essentially tofu scramble, haha. No wait, hash. It was hash. That is different from scramble, I swear. (Ok, maybe it is just nicer to go to a place where I can have mostly everything, with a few adjustments like Daiya instead of cheese and tofu instead of eggs.)
Val made a comment about how life as vegan Tams is harder but it is only harder when I go outside and have to trust other people to make food for me.
We ended up meeting up with Maine, Sean and Zoey and we tried to go to Spanish Banks dog park style but there was zero parking at that point so we went to fancy downtown beach where the dogs are pip pip but they don’t really make friends with you. I desperately want a dog. But I think I will buy a camera first because you don’t have to potty train a camera.
Maine and I had pizza and beer on Thursday, it was delightful.
My friend Stephanie does not understand why a vegan would want to eat vegan meat lovers pizza. Number one, it was delicious. Number two, it was not actually meat, and I am not being vegan Tams because I do not like meat. Mostly I do not like being rude to animals (although some meat does gross me out now anyway).
Here is my tiny review of that pizza place: I had gone there expecting it to be filled with weirdo hipster douchebags and was pleasantly surprised to see it was just two awkward kids eating pizza. However, the place is tiny and I feel the tables could have used a good wipe. I would probably just get delivery from here in the future. I also kinda expected to be able to buy slices of pizza as the menu and internet tells me I can, but I did not see any single slices available. Also the pizza sauce was made of more spicy than I expected, and I would be interested in trying a different kind next time.
Then I think we ended up playing Rock Band for old time’s sake. (Actually I feel we did this on Friday, not Thursday, but it really does not matter.) All you really need to know is that my character has the best outfits (you can’t see her fuzzy boots in this picture).
Oh also I went to Granville Island to go to Maiwa with Rebecca on Friday but I don’t have any photos. We popped in the Craft House where I touched some rugs. Some cranky people were rude to us about parking, and I got two fabric markers and the new issue of Uppercase. I would like to subscribe so I do not have to hunt it down but I am really picky about the condition of magazines and I do not trust Canada Post not to ruin it.
I am not very good at engaging the few readers I have. What did you do this weekend? (This is a cheap ploy for comments.) I’m kidding. I’m curious.
