Once upon a time when I was younger, Macaulay Culkin was not just some kid who used to hang out with Michael Jackson, and he was in popular movies, and he was in this one movie where he was so evil and then there was another guy who was not evil. This post is about the not evil guy, better known as Elijah Wood.

So in that movie, which I think I was going to see in the theatre but then I saw Jurassic Park instead, the kid is totally evil and at the end (don’t read this if you don’t want to know what happens but seriously this movie is like 15 years old and if you haven’t seen it now, let’s be honest, you never will) the mom has to decide which kid to save because for some reason they are both dangling off the side of a cliff, and she totally chooses the one who is not her kid, and I think that would be pretty tough to do.

Pretty powerful stuff, non?

Then another time there was this other movie with Bruce Willis and I really only like him in 12 Monkeys and I think that I only like that movie because Brad Pitt is insane in it, um yeah, ok so yeah Sin City, does anyone even remember that movie? I think I have slept through it like 5 times. And I only remember two parts:

1.

and

2.

And then! I watched another movie, and one time I read the book of it but really it was more like two books and it took me forever and I will be honest I don’t even know what happened still, but yeah I watched the movie because it had Eugene Hutz in it, and I feel like this entry is supposed to be about Elijah Wood but I am failing pretty hard at that.

Ok here is the thing: I kinda think he should be in more movies, because I like him but I am also a little bit creeped out by him, and I feel that is about as good a reason as any for a person to be in the movies.

You probably feel uncomfortable right now, right? You probably want more, though, too. Admit it. (It’s been a long day, please forgive me.)

On the way home I saw an ice cream truck and it made me think of Borat and I told Rebecca to watch it but I don’t know if it is a movie recommendation I should really stand behind.

I just made a playlist primarily of songs I listened to a lot about three years ago, and now I am nostalgic for that time. It is funny, because the time I am the most nostalgic for was probably one of the saddest times in recent memory, but I guess in a way it is bittersweet thinking about long bike rides at 4 am, listening to Sunset Rubdown while flying down the big hill on Boundary afraid for my life.

In honour of this, I give you a list of ten songs I loved, and still love:

1. Sunset Rubdown – This is the song I remember most from my 4 am bike rides. I was pretty obsessed with it for a long time.

2. Beirut makes me nostalgic for places I’ve never been.

3. One time I paid a lot of money for tickets to REM because The National was one of the opening bands. They weren’t even the main opener. Then the time on the ticket was wrong and I ended up missing most of it because we got there late. We left a few songs into REM’s set because they were boring. It was still worth it.

4. This video cracks me up because it makes about zero sense and also because I remember the Roundel and how you could get Campbell’s tomato soup there, and it was totally dodgy and fantastic.

5. One time I went to Edmonton and was staying at a friend’s house. We went out and drank a bunch of beer, then came home and it was a million degrees so I had a shower. He was loaded, and went to sit outside to listen to music. He was singing along and woke up his sister, and she yelled, and he called my cell about a thousand times because he wanted me to come sit outside. When I went out, he put this song on for me because he knew I liked it, and put it on my favourite part. There was also lightening, real lightning, not the wimpy kind we get out here sometimes. He probably doesn’t remember it, but I do, and it was magical.

6. When I worked at eBay, Steph and I sometimes coordinated our playlists. This was one of the songs we’d listen to at the same time, and then spend the rest of the day “Dooooooo, do do do do do dooooooooo”ing and making our coworkers crazy.

7. I was going to talk about how I used to listen to a lot of Death From Above and when I’d ride my bicycle it made me feel tough for some reason, but then I found this video and decided this is the man I will marry. It’s kinda like the guy version of this lady.

8. Remember the time I had to do a thing in Design class where we deconstructed a t-shirt to make a thing based on a fairy tale, and I played this song during my presentation because every time I worked on my project I got it stuck in my head, and then I got 100% on the assignment and also converted a nice sweet Korean gentleman to Man Man? That was a good time.

9. This song reminds me that I used to be the kids that I hate now.

10. Ok I know everyone loves this song now, but some people liked it before Glee made it happen. Steph was one of those people and I’m pretty sure we listened to this and Night Moves way more than is normal for people our age. Sometimes I miss the old house. A lot. I also miss American Gladiators, but that’s neither here nor there.

I’m guessing most of you don’t have the attention span to listen to all of those, but I just did, and it was awesome.

I am going to a thing tomorrow to try to get a job even though they already rejected me like two weeks ago. Wish me luck!
