So, not much has changed in the last couple days. Still keep on keepin’ on.
It was really hot last night, so we went to 7-11 for slurpees and then for a walk around the neighbourhood. There is this weird bush near our apartment, I think it looks like a giraffe.
There was free fruit. I ate one, it was ok. I should probably not eat street fruit but you know how it is.
I started weaving, but a terrible thing happened where I ran out of alpaca. I think I’m going to try to buy some from Birkeland if I can scrounge up enough money, but it is sad because I was hoping to bring this with me to Whistler on Sunday.
An even more terrible thing happened where one of the cats (probably Bert, since he’s the wool eater) nomed the weaving. I had to fix it but it looks ok still.
I also started knitting a shawl out of the last ball of organic cotton I had. I probably need to buy more. Here’s hoping I sell something this weekend.
Oh also I’m on the third season of Mad Men and I still don’t understand why people love this show. I think it would be better if it was mostly about Peggy, cause Don Draper is a jerk.
A few days ago I applied for a job at a call centre. A few hours later I got an email telling me I wasn’t qualified enough to work there. This is hilarious to me because I spent two years working in a call centre, doing basically everything from billing inquiries to credits to calming down angry customers.
There is nothing wrong with my resume, so I’m guessing I failed to pass their hoop jumping personality test. The extra funny part of that is that I have a degree in psychology so I know enough to see that the test was completely bunk anyway. You can’t determine if a person is going to be a good employee or not by asking 25 questions about “What are you the most like? What are you the least like?”, especially when each question had answers that, I feel, could be interpreted in several different ways.
Oh well. In the end, it is best for my mental health that I don’t end up at a place like that. However, not getting a job is just not so great for my bank account.
So now, on to the good stuff!
I’ve decided that, from now on, I’m just going to say I am self-employed but my employer hasn’t paid me yet.
On Monday I warped up with some organic naturally dyed cotton. I warped enough to make two scarves. The first, I used the same cotton for the weft and a pattern from The Handweaver’s Pattern Directory.
For the second scarf I used purple cotton. It is a little more rough than the organic cotton, but I like the way it makes the warp look sort of lavender coloured.
Today I’m warping up with some Malabrigo Silky Merino (51% silk, 49% merino and 100% delightful). I’m going to use some handspun single ply alpaca in the weft.
In totally unrelated news, here is Maine looking really excited about me making him wear a crappy headband.
Mostly this is just making fun of those crappy DIYs where people are like “Make your own ring! Put a button on some string and tie it around your finger! Amazing!” (I know this is super rude of me but come on, do people really need a tutorial on how to do this?)
We are terrible people.
This used to say “Jesus died for you”, but I like this better.
