Ok it is serious time, guys. I might offend some people with this post and if I offend you, I am sorry but only a little because I think maybe if you are one of these people you should be offended in a way because it might mean you are realizing that this is not cool. That being said, ok here is the deal:

Let it be known: I freakin’ love weheartit.com. I do. I have an account there, I have the little thingy in my Firefox and I heart stuff with it sometimes. So that’s cool. I think it’s a pretty rad way of keeping track of inspiration and also exploring to see other cool things.

What is not cool, in my opinion, is when you primarily use photos from weheartit.com in your blog posts. Why? Because it’s misleading. Yeah, it’s a great photograph but you did not take it. And I do not care if you are linking back, I still think it is weak.

Occasionally I post pictures that are not my own, but I try to do this only in the context of “Hey look at this awesome thing I found, this person made it, go look at their blog because they are awesome!”

I think part of being a good blogger is creating your own content, and that includes learning how to use your digital camera. I don’t take mindblowing photographs, but at least they are my own.

It is really annoying to me when I read a post that is all “Oh hey I went to the beach today” and there are photos of someone on the beach and I’m like wow that is a nice photo and then I realize that it was taken from weheartit.com or wherever else.

If you are writing about how much you love to create, why don’t you try actually CREATING. I can understand using it occasionally if you are talking about inspiration but to use it as a substitute for creating your own content is weaksauce.

This is how it makes me feel:

That is all.

Hello Sunday people,

A thing has happened where somehow I got sucked into watching Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew and it is mega awkward/sad. I really should be working on my embroidery sampler, and I promise I will right after I am done writing this.

So on Wednesday we presented our group projects in Surface Design. The point of the assignment was to work in a group and make something out of pieces of one thing.

This group selected the dried leaves, and when they presented they also used a blow dryer to move them around.

100_4258

This group made a sandwich quilt sort of thing. Sort of a book except it was hanging on the wall.

100_4263

This group took a bunch of doll clothes, cut them up, and sewed/stapled them together as a sort of trim.

100_4266

My group made a garden party necklace out of bits of fake flowers. I wanted to go outside to hide a real flower in it as well but sad times, that did not happen.

100_4307

On Friday we went to the Surrey Art Gallery to see my instructor’s work (she is the artist in residence right now), and to see the Quilt of Belonging.

100_4311

The quilt is made of squares representing all the countries in the world, as well as the main First Nations groups in Canada.

100_4312

It was pretty awesome. Also it was kinda funny because there was a tour of little kids at the same time and they came in, and one was like “Usually I am a chatterbox but when I came in I was speechless.” She was probably like 8 years old. So precious.

100_4314

I think Hungary was my favourite, but there were so many awesome squares. It is in Surrey until April 4 so if you have time, go see it before it leaves!

100_4330

Ruth showed us her weird computer Jacquard loom, and then we presented our weaving projects.

100_4336

I forgot to take pictures of my pieces so I will try to do that later, but there were some other really awesome ones and I will show them to you now.

100_4342

Sol made this crazy corset for a metal dress that she filled with marbles. It had pickups inside and then she had it going through a delay pedal and an amp. It was pretty hilarious seeing people were watching her in her crazy noise dress. It was magical.

100_4350

Serine made a scarf/vest using handspun. I was pretty impressed that she pulled it off, as she had never spun before and it can be tough at first. But she is a trooper and always seems to make it through.

100_4351

This is Trina holding up Natalie’s project, which was a wall hanging based on a photograph of a sunset she took in Thailand.

100_4352

Mackenzie made a hooded scarf, and I wish I had taken better/more pictures of everything because everyone did an amazing job.

Friday was like the longest day ever because after we presented, we headed to Abbotsford for Fibres West. But before we went, we stopped for food at the T&T.

100_4355

I could not resist.

100_4356

I guess it is colourful, and it was somewhat tasty, but then I felt sick about ten minutes after. Food court Chinese food always seems like a good idea until the stomach ache sets in.

100_4357

Rebecca drove us there in her gigantor camper van. Serine and Sol were in the back bouncing around when we drove into the parking lot because of all the potholes. It was pretty hysterical.

100_4359

We were not even sure if we were in the right place at first, because there was no signage or anything.

100_4362

Inside was full of yarn and ladies who like yarn, pretty much. I was hoping there would be an alpaca for me to love but no such luck. I ended up getting a warping board and one shuttle, as well as some alpaca roving and some silk. Pretty excited about that.

I also sat to listen to a lecture by Kim Werker about how to bring your crafting online, which is kind of funny cause I am pretty sure I already do that, but it was ok. She was pretty funny so I had a good time.

100_4365

Ok I swear I am almost done, thanks for hanging in there.

100_4367

You know your movie is amazing when someone with a blogspot account is quoted in the ad.

100_4366

This door makes me so happy.

100_4369

So do bubbles!

100_4371

Last night we went to Toby’s for a few drinks, forgetting that it was UFC times. Luckily most people left cause it ended when we got there, but then a band happened. We switched tables three times and eventually ended up on the patio, which was way less loud than inside.

100_4377

Afterward we stopped at Macs for snacks and I am sure Lucas is saying something really groundbreaking to Jen in this picture.

100_4376

Val and her new haircut are doing their best impression of me in photographs. I would hide more, but it is pretty close.

100_4374

Oh ketchup and popcorn, together at last.

Yesterday we went back in time at the Old Spaghetti Factory for their anniversary.

100_4251

Basically they were using pricing from the 70′s and donating the dollars to the BC Firefighters Burn Fund. So we went for $2 pasta.

The line was gigantor when we got there. Val went straight from her work and we met her there soon after. Pretty much she was at the end of the block. We must be very dedicated to cheap food because we had to wait almost 3 hours before we got in.

While we were waiting, Maine texted Aaron so he joined us as well to (not) celebrate his forward going in time. Aaron hates fun and pictures of himself and celebrating his birthday so we just tried not to mention it. He spent most of the night harassing Val about her desire to one day have children.

100_4255

I got the Homer variety and when the waiter brought it out he told us we were lucky because we just got the last of the cheese. Score!

Anyways, here are some school photos that I meant to put up the other day but then did not because I am lazy and terrible.

100_4225

I dyed some of the fleece we got, and then I had to card it. I spent most of Friday carding, and then spinning a bit.

100_4228

100_4237

While I was carding, Sol took over my camera and got some action shots of other people working.

100_4233

100_4231

100_4236

100_4235

And also not working.

100_4232

100_4234

Pretty much when I went home on Friday my arm ached so hard from carding, so then I had some Tylenol but it did not help so I dipped into the T3s Maine had from his tooth ache adventure. That helped.

Then we met some friends to watch The Crazies. That did not help.

Seriously I am such a baby in scary movies now. I used to love them so much and now I just jump a lot and get scared. I can’t decide if I like them or not. But I think I will go see the new Nightmare on Elmstreet movie anyways. (Can I put in a request for a Johnny Depp cameo?)

bert loves val

After the Crazies, Val came to our house for Bertundo love and also Blue Crush because I like that movie for some reason.

On Saturday I went up to the school to work on my sampler, which is due next week. I’m doing a map of my hometown, with images of memories I have from growing up there.

100_4243

If any old GC people are reading this, I’m sure you recognize some of these!

Oh and for one last lol, here is the “fashion drawing” I did in class that I didn’t entirely hate from last Thursday.

100_4223

Drawing is not so much my forte.

Ok I have to go back to watching Stephen Hawking’s Universe now.
