I am trying to shake the feeling that I “should” be working on something for school. Jokes on me, Friday was the last day before the break. I somehow managed to get everything done and none of it took nearly as long as I thought it would.
Voila! Bert as Jupiter floating in space. The last project of the semester. Maine says I do not have a promising career ahead of me as a tapestry artist. I say it’s my first one so GIVE ME A BREAK. Besides, tapestry is not really the medium to choose if you are going for realism.
After we presented on Friday we were pretty much free to go, except I had to get my student loan thing sorted out. Lucky for me everything was approved Friday morning so I managed to get it all printed out and handed into the Financial Aid office so they could give me a fee deferral. Hooray for not getting deregistered!
I also stayed to help a classmate finish her tapestry sampler as she wasn’t able to get the project finished and was still working away on it. Tapestry is one of those things where you can’t really push it – it takes time, and sometimes, well, you run out of it. But I was happy to help her, especially since she has been kind enough to give me a ride to school pretty much every day for the semester. I had intended on making her a gift but, well, there’s that tricky time thing again.
So I took the bus home and around Phibbs exchange I decided to keep going on to Lonsdale to grab some lunch.
I did not really take a whole lot of pictures because my camera did a weird thing and said it was full when it should not have been. Turns out when I deleted pictures they were going into a “Trash” folder on the memory card instead of pixel heaven. I have no idea why a thing like that would even happen.
Then of course we had to make cookies for my Christmas Cookie Exchange party and I figured why not try a little candied bacon chocolate chip? They were pretty decent, actually. I was kind of hoping for MORE BACON INTENSITY though.
Oh by the way here is the sweet mug Jen bought me in New York. It is perfect for drinking all of the coffee.
Also I just wanted to show this because I think it is funny. I couldn’t get a good picture of it because Bert gave up just after this one, but basically they were both so excited about an open window and were trying to jam themselves through it.
There is significantly less competition for this window.
Also this picture makes me giggle because it explains why he got the nickname “Scantron”. No kidding he can’t see out the front, so yeah that explains the side to side head motion. Cute!
He is starting to like me though! Great success!
I think next time I will do a salad exchange because I think all my friends went into glucose shock (is that a thing?)
Also we watched Santa’s Slay and it was incredible. Pretty much a new holiday tradition for us.
I have a playlist called “In Rod We Trust”. I use it to battle against my obnoxious neighbours. And also because I <3 the Rod. I kind of wish that I did not have to go to my cousin’s wedding in August because I definitely would have gone to the Rod Stewart show if I could have.
It snowed a little bit today. It was kind of nice, actually. I was terrified that it would snow a real lot and then I would not be able to go up to Capilano to do work but apparently the weather is saving the mega snow for tomorrow.
I have panda feet. And holes in my shoes. It is sad times because I really want new boots but we cannot really afford it.
I am super coveting these boots. Hey mom if you’re reading this, um, hello Christmas <3
This is the outside of our apartment. We have all of the windows.
The better to creep on you with.
Anyways, as you might’ve guessed, I did actually go to school today. Except this time I took a different route because last week when I went up, the 28 was late so I missed the 239 by like 2 minutes and had to sit at Phibbs Exchange for like half an hour in the cold and it sucked.
This time I took the train downtown and then took the SeaBus to Lonsdale and caught the 239 there.
Except this time I missed the SeaBus by 3 minutes so I had to wait 27 minutes for the next one. Good thing there is a Starbucks at Waterfront. Oh and sidenote, the Starbucks guy was all “Oh my, you’re very colourful!” to me. I just said yeah and smiled.
I was there for about 7 hours, but I managed to get everything done for my surface design project.
I did so many processes! Mineral vat immersion dyes and direct application, Procion MX immersion and direct application, indigo, and discharging indigo with potassium permanganate. My goodness.
Unfortunately not all of them involve shibori techniques but I think I did enough that I should hopefully do decently on this project. Dare to dream!
Oh by the way, here is the project I am working on for my tapestry class.
Why yes I am a ridiculous space obsessed cat lady!
