DSCI0241

My Macbook bit the dust. I was trying to upload a video of my bunny being cute from my camera, and so I plugged in the USB, turned on the camera and my computer epic failed for no reason.

DSCI0237

This is very similar to the face I made when it happened. Sad times.

DSCI0275

So then this morning we took it down to the Apple store downtown. No, we did not buy Apple Care. I thought that would be the only problem.

DSCI0280

It turns out, actually, that Apple products epic fail so often that you need to make appointments before someone can look at it and take all your dollars. The lady standing just under the Genius Bar symbol helped us make an appointment online. For tomorrow. At 5 pm. Mrrrr.

DSCI0281

As we left the store we were like “WTF” and kind of annoyed, and then I realized that hey there are other places that sell Apple products and maybe they know how to fix things? So we crossed the street and hopped on the 16 up to Granville and Broadway, and then walked over to WestWorld Computers.

DSCI0284

Jokes on Apple cause we only had to wait 5 minutes to talk to the Service Guy, and that was only because he was on lunch. He plugged my machine in, turned it on and said “Yeah it’s the hard drive. It’s not spinning. We can install a new one if you want, the smallest will be $129 plus $30 something for service.”

Ding, ding, we have a winner. So now we’re getting a hard drive that is twice the size of our original one. I mean it sucks, but we should have it back tomorrow. I hope.

DSCI0288

Then we went over to Chapters to ogle books, and I really want that Alice in Wonderland copy in the middle but we practiced restraint and did not buy anything.

DSCI0239

I have some friends who practice “Africa month” when they are real poor, and yes I realize that is totally offensive, but it is kind of where we are at right now. So our version is actually more like “Ok we are going to eat more vegetarian meals and not buy a lot of crap”, which in the end is probably way better for us anyways and we should do it more often. I frankensteined this meal together by chucking vegetables in a pan with some tofu and curry powder. Voila!

Maine says all my meals have the same vegetables but if it’s pasta I add tomato sauce, if it’s Indian I add curry powder, if it’s soup I add stock, if it’s pizza I put it on dough with cheese, if it’s chili then we add beans. He is kinda right. Usually it is: onion, carrots, celery, mushrooms, zucchini, peppers, and usually garlic or sometimes grated ginger, depending on what I am making.

So there you go. The basis of most of my recipes.

DSCI0293

On our way home we stopped at the weird army surplus store across the street. We’ve lived here almost a year and have never been, it is kind of sad. But they had some amazing signs and also gorillas and most of the stuff was pretty cheap.

DSCI0296

We looked for a hat for Maine but sadly were not able to find one that wasn’t ridiculous and that also fit properly. The medium, she was too small, but the large, she was too big. Sad times.

DSCI0297

However if this was not $60 I definitely would have bought it for him.

DSCI0299

DSCI0298

Oh yeah last night we walked to the Grind for no reason. It started out as “hey let’s go for a walk” and ended up in almost 4km of trekking through the city.

DSCI0268

These people still had Halloween decorations up, which was kinda rad.

It was far and wet and cold, but also kinda fun, so I think we will maybe do a similar walk again.

Ok dudes I’m out. I might add some videos to the Youtubes maybe? I dunno.

P.S. If I could wear this every day I totally would:

I’ve always had a good laugh at this one.

I showed this video to Maine earlier today and told him I love Brett Domino. He says this is why nerds like me. I dunno.

DSCI0186

Today I Wii Fitted and it told me I am 27, which is fantastic because I am 27, but also confusing because yesterday it told me I was 21, and I feel I did worse yesterday. I don’t know. I am learning how to trick it.

Does anyone have that newer one? Is it worthwhile? I mean Wii Fit is ok, but I get kinda bored of it quickly. I unlocked the boxing again – I had it before but then I did not Wii Fit for a long time and I felt I should start again. The boxing is fun.

DSCI0187

Then before I went out I gave Bertram a quick snorgle but he was too lazy to even acknowledge my existence. I notice as he gets older the more he sort of tolerates my love.

DSCI0192

I met Jen and Jeff at the Slocan for breakfast and had a pretty underwhelming experience. Our waitress was not on her game, at all.

DSCI0196

I had Greek salad and Spanikopita. Yeah not really breakfast food but seriously it was like 1pm by the time we ordered.

DSCI0197

Funny because today was basically the Hobo, Germs and Virii Express day. So many sick people. STAY HOME you jerks. Transit is a bit of a mess.

DSCI0198

After we ate, Jen and I tried to find the new yarn store near Hastings and Nanaimo and failed. I took a picture of this restaurant because it has two names. I do not know which is the real name.

DSCI0200

Then we headed downtown and I think I realized how busy and awful things are going to be during the Olympics. Today was a grey Sunday afternoon in November and there were still tons of people downtown.

DSCI0201

This car was sweet (check the skull in the back) but I do not think this lady was down with photos. I was thinking maybe next time don’t walk through my shot if you do not want to be on the internet.

DSCI0202

Yesterday on Vancouver is Awesome there was a bit thing about the new program happening at the Gap and how they made everything upside down. Why was there no mention of BUNNIES?

DSCI0203

These are much more relevant to my interests.

DSCI0204

We went inside for a moment so Jen could look for something and totally found this guy on the floor. I don’t think he enjoyed being upside down.

DSCI0205

Then another thing happened while we were walking down Robson. That thing is SO MANY YARNS at the TNA store.

DSCI0207

I don’t even know what TNA is other than you know the obvious but hello I approve of this display.

DSCI0208

It was kind of misleading though because at first I thought I was going to be able to buy yarn there.

DSCI0209

They had also this amazing owl hanging.

DSCI0210

And I am super coveting these Sorels. (Also no one knows what I am talking about when I mention Sorels here. Sad times.)

DSCI0213

We walked past the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and I convinced Jen that we should buy caramel apples. She got a chocolate covered one and I tried to get just a plain caramel one but they told me they did not have any even though I could see a tray behind them.

DSCI0214

In the end it worked out ok though because there was no way Jen was going to eat her’s on her own, so we shared it and now I will give her a portion of dollars.

DSCI0217

Then we went to Winners and pretty much they had my hat, only made properly and not made of delicious Malabrigo. I don’t mind so much that mine is gimpy. It gives it character, right?!

I am learning how to do tapestry. It is kind of awesome but so time consuming. I think we were working on it for about 6 hours yesterday but it only felt like 2. This is going to be my little French anxiety face emoticon: D}:<

He’s French because of the mustache.

Speaking of mustaches…

mustache mustache mustache

It is called “The Scoundrel” and I pretty much had to buy it.

i had to buy one

I saw them at Dressew the other day and could not resist. I thought maybe they would be on sale since it is past Halloween but no dice. Still, I think it was a good $2.50 spent.

This could be why I am poor, though. You know. My nasty habit of buying things because they are funny to me. I was thinking maybe if one of you knows how to get rich on the internet you could let me know some of the secrets.

i fail at plants

I think part of getting rich on the internet is being willing to expose all your parts, including the nasty ones. This is one of my failures. When I moved in, this plant was alive. Someone had abandoned it on our patio. It is so clearly not alive now. And also in the summer when it was real hot, someone (certainly not me) used it as a trash can for popsicle sticks.

(Ok definitely me.)

waiting waiting waiting

I am not really the most thrilled with the quality of this camera, but then I have to remember that I only paid $45 for it before taxes.

the gross mustache is gone

The other day we went to Subway for dinner and Maine fiddled with the settings so it works a tiny bit better now.

delicious noms

Going through these photos made me really want a sub. D:

creepin on the neighbours

I have been looking at houses on the internet. Dreaming. I think I will probably have to move somewhere like Winnipeg if I ever want to own a house. You can buy a real house there for less than a crappy condo here. Sad times.

While looking at real estate websites last night I stumbled upon this slideshow from the New York Times. This house is pretty much magic.

le sigh

I also fell pretty hard in love with this home in Helsinki.

Dare to dream, right?

I am kind of obsessed with this song right now:
