So on Wednesday Maine and I were bored, so we decided to take the new train for fun. I convinced him we should go to Aberdeen Centre so I could go to the Daiso. For those of you who are not familiar, all you really need to know is that it is a giant Japanese dollar-type store. Most things are $2 but some of the bigger things are a bit more. The most expensive thing I saw was a giant bowl for $9. In other words, it is dangerous.
We wandered around a bit and checked out the other stores before going in. I forgot to bring a camera, so you’ll have to do with Maine’s cell phone pictures.

I want. So bad. Why does Blythe have to be so expensive?

We went into David and Goliath and for the first time in a long time I was super sad about not being tiny.

This store had a no photography policy. Jokes on them, we just went outside to take a picture. Basically brilliant concept though. They rent out little glass cubes for anything from $30 to $85 a month, and the people who rent them put things in to sell. No commission. If I ever get around to actually making things to sell, it might not be a bad idea to drop some things off. Unfortunately their website does not appear to be working at the moment.

We also picked up some little things at Gacha. Maine was disappointed because he got one of the “special” toys. I can see how these would get very addictive. So much cuuuuuute!

After a while we decided it was time for lunch, so we headed up to the food court. It was sort of terrifying with all of the random choices. We settled on Strawberry Cones pizza, which was both familiar and weird at the same time. (Side note: why do they not sell anything involving strawberries there?)

Maine had two slices of the teriyaki chicken and mochi pizza, while I had one slice of that and one slice of the tuna and potato pizza. They also gave us a little packet of sea weed to sprinkle on the pizza. God bless the Japanese.

For desert we had cream puffs from Beard Papa’s. These are a little more familiar to me, but I am still surprised when I bite into one and it is not whipped cream. It’s kind of more like Boston cream?

Afterwards, we were ready to take on the Daiso. We managed to spend only about $50 and came home with plenty of crap. Here is some of it.

The owl I picked up for Val.

Because I don’t have enough mugs as it is. Sigh.

Picked up two of these.

And two of these. I don’t care if our things match. Clearly.

This calendar is basically useless to me now but it was too cute to pass up.

The Pocky is long gone now, as evidenced by the open box. So. Good.

I am not sure what is healthy about chunks suspended in mystery goo?

The pineapple is mine, the orange was Maine’s. When he drank it he said it was like someone smooshed an orange and shoved it in the can.

Cuuuute socks. I hope they fit my panda feet.

Again, purchased only for the cute.

It is full of stickers!
That is pretty much it. There were a couple other food items that I didn’t take pictures of.
P.S. Bert loves Rasci.

Hello friends!
I find it interesting that the more free time I have, the less inclined I am to post about it. Probably because I have not really accomplished anything of note since I returned from Alberta.
With that being said, I was informed by Maine that I probably need to include more “personal” things in my blog. I argued with him, saying that I don’t like some of the blogs I read religiously because of the people who write them – I am easily annoyed by people who seem full of themselves.
Humility! It is a good thing! You are not the prettiest/smartest/most clever/whatever person in the room, and even if you are, your attraction factor loses points every time you talk about being the prettiest/smartest/most clever/whatever person.
Of course I lost the argument because he pointed out that even though I am annoyed by these people sometimes, I still read their blogs more often than the people who are nice and just post pretty pictures of things they made or things that inspired them. I tend to scroll through those blogs, just glancing at the pictures.
Ok, point taken.
And I don’t say this to make anyone feel bad, or to be an asshole, really I promise. The reason I read those blogs is because I find them interesting, and they provoke a feeling in me, even if it often is just annoyance (and perhaps a hint of jealousy).
I WANT TO MAKE YOU FEEL SOMETHING, DAMN IT!
I was concerned that Bertram might be angry at me when I got back. The longest I have ever been away from him was about 4 days. This time, it was 9. The last time, he shunned me for about half an hour, and then spent the next few days constantly by my side.
Bert spent the first 24 hours after I returned here:

The next afternoon, he sat on me and drooled just long enough that I knew he had missed me.
I am not sure if Maine missed me as much, or if he mostly just missed my cooking. He spent the week living like a bro: I left him $150 which he promptly spent on a Heiniken mini-keg, a pack of cigarettes (I complain when he smokes), and pizza.
I made sure to make a respectable dinner when I got back. It included homemade pitas courtesy of this recipe:

Roasted lemon potatoes from this recipe:

Salad using this recipe for dressing:

And chicken souvlaki based on this recipe:

I honestly do not know how great my cooking skills would be without the internet. I have known how to cook for several years (I had to, as my mom worked out of town and was gone for weeks at a time when I was still living at home), but I can’t imagine I would spend enough money on cookbooks to be able to make a variety of meals this often.

Maine actually ate all the salad, except for the green peppers! Hurrah!
Once I make something, I usually remember how to make it for life, and I just throw things in and hope for the best. But it is nice to have easily accessible blueprints for meals. (Oh dear, am I talking about how awesome I am? Are you annoyed?)
I will be updating again soon with pictures from our adventure to Richmond yesterday. The new Canada Line is basically amazing, and it should be considering how many dollars it cost us.
Hello friends.

The funny thing about being here is I have tons of time to do things, but mostly I am just napping and playing with the kitten.

He is so well behaved it is kind of ridiculous. Obviously when it is playtime he is a maniac like most cats are, but when it is sleep time he just stays on the bed the whole time and goes to sleep also. And he makes the best little noises. I may have to steal him.
So what’s the deal with this Mad Men show? Is it awesome? All I know is that the ladies dress like how I wish I dressed.
Anyways, here are some of the pictures from Sulphur Gates that I didn’t have the energy to post earlier.

The rest can be found on my Flickr.
Yesterday I went for dinner with my mom and my grandma. We had donair pizza. It was delicious, even though our dinner was crashed. I’m not even going to talk about it, but seriously dudes, I haven’t seen my grandma in 2 years I was thinking maybe you could not crash our dinner?

Maybe a dislike of pictures is genetic?
Also I got stared at by a couple as we were leaving. Not surprising in this town, but usually when people are staring and you look at them, they stop staring. Not these two. So I asked them “Having a good stare?” and the guy says “Yep”. Ha! I should have told him that if he’s going to gawk that much he’s going to need to pay admission. Oh well.
Does this look familiar?

One thing I have finally gotten around to is making my own pair of Endpaper Mitts.

The pattern confuses the crap out of me but I think I am finally starting to get it.

Look at all these beautiful mitts <3
