Archives: 2009 February

I have been pretty mega busy the last week. I did some overtime, which resulted in not a whole lot of making.

However! We have a contest at work right now, and it involved decorating a shoe box. This counts as crafty, yes?

Here is a very blurry picture of some handspun on my swift. I have discovered drying on my swift results in less mess, so, that’s what I’m doing to set the twist for the time being.

I got the roving on etsy :)

No idea what it will be made into yet.

And that other older handspun, in the sun:

I think I am going to be turning my kitchen into a craft area. I never use the kitchen table and I am in desperate need of better storage if this is going to continue. I am eyeing up some shelves from ikea.

It’s been a productive couple of weeks, which maybe explains why I haven’t bothered to post?

Last weekend I went to Michael’s with Val and we bought many things. Mostly we got stuff to make marble magnets. It hasn’t happened yet, I think in part because we don’t have a lot of awesome images and also because we are easily distracted by other things.

I spent some time tonight plying together two strands of handspun. Both were done on a spinning wheel but I plyed them with my drop spindle. One is just purple merino, the other is black merino with recycled sari threads that I bought on etsy a while back.

Speaking of etsy, I had a bad experience there, with three different sellers. This makes me sad. I ordered some things within the same few days and never received any of it. I have emailed the sellers and we’ve been waiting to see if it will show up.

But let’s be honest here. I ordered this stuff in mid November. It should have been here long ago. In fact, I’ve ordered plenty of things since then that came. So.

I don’t really know what to do because… as someone who works for eBay doing customer support, I talk to sellers all the time who get scammed by bad buyers. And I don’t want these sellers to think I’m trying to scam them. I mean… I just want my fluff and mustache necklace and niddy noddy ok?

Back to the yarn.

And together makes:

I ended up with much more than i expected. I am not sure what I’m going to do with it. I might just copy Val and make a small cowl.

I also dyed some yarn today, also handspun. This stuff I made with my drop spindle and unfortunately I think I did it wrong when I plyed it together. Oh well.

I added more purple to the yarn I tried to dye a few weeks back. It is mega uneven, but I don’t mind. I am going to make a weird cowl out of this eventually. I am not allowed to start until I finish Maine’s scarf, so it’s a good thing I made Val fix the weird hole I made in it when she was over here last night.

I would like to quickly mention that Maine haxor’d that shower so it is basically amazing. Best. Shower. Ever. It had one of those water control majiggers in it… I know this is so not environmentally friendly but he removed it and now it is delightful.

I am teaching myself how to embroider. These are leaves which are going to be part of the cowl/scarf thing. I am excited for this. I will be making some other colour leaves as well.

And finally… I got hyper on coffee on Friday and Maine got annoyed with me so he told me to make something. This is kind of a …. Frankensaurus Rex. Obviously not finished (did I mention I have a terrible attention span?).

And that, my friends, is it. Tremaine’s birthday is in two days and I have an idea that I need to get to work on ASAP… We’ll see how it goes. But expect photos!
